no. I was merely stating that single-target damage is highly effective when used as A/P+discordway, which was to counter the other statement that all is outshone by AoE damage in pve

33% increase to pet damage also applies to armor ignoring attack skill damage! Check it out: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10393295
Enjoy it while it lasts...

I think people are getting carried away with this great update and forgetting how truely useless pets were before. It's all welcome stuff, but pets are now elevated to the level of low mediocrity.
It does illustrate though how right people have been pointing out how bad pets were, and in calling for the merge of pet rez. Dunno what took ANet al these years to realise it.

@ smiling scar, not to point out the obvious here, but take Sf as an example; the global 33% damage reduction even applies to armour ignoring skills such as CoP. And this makes me think your point is totally irrelevant, as I assume ALL damage done by a pet is increased by 33% and if that damage be Armour ignoring, then so be the extra 33%. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree with that. Pets aren't amazing now, just not useless anymore. I still need an AI fix before I start using pets regularly. Also, nerfing Mshot instead of buffing other ranger elites makes this update poor imo.

After a little testing of my own on some missions and todays Zbounty in hm, I can conclude that pets now rule as compared to their former mediocrity.

With a few skill modifications a pet can tank well, and put out decent armor ignoring unblockable damage and maintain it.

Great Dwarf Weapon + Strength of Honor = constant 100+ damage from the pet.

I could also point out that other damage modifiers, like asuran scan, aura of holy might, customization, and inscriptions do not affect attack skill damage. You are not wrong in that certain skills do affect skill damage (vow of strength and By Ural's Hammer for example). But since this damage buff is inherent and not skill based, I would have thought it would work like customization, on base damage only.
It seems hard to believe that this is how they intended it to work, considering pet attacks generally have higher bonus damage already to make up for some of their clumsiness.
I really thought this was an attempt to make up for the lack of a beast mastery weapon, by giving pets a damage bonus akin to customization + inscription.

I run a pet/hammer build and get ~90 DPS on the master of damage, with considerable AoE damage.
Beast Mastery: 14 (10 + 4)
Hammer Mastery: 12
Expertise: 9 (8 + 1)
Yeti Smash
Whirlwind Attack
Mighty Blow
Melandru's Assault
Enraged Lunge
Scavenger's Strike
Never Rampage Alone
Comfort Animal
Scavenger's strike is great for spamming melandru's and enraged lunge on recharge with enough energy left to keep NRA up at only 9 expertise.

Gosh, I'd like to run one of those pet/hammer builds, but how do you get the pet to carry a hammer?

Ok, so you pointed out that one hero build that overkills enemies is useful. Congrats. In a human group, properly pulling enemies and using AoE is going to do better than spamming discord.

I wonder how the pets fare in PvP now? is it anything as good as a flesh golem to the face?

Do people not read updates anymore? Pets weren't touched in PvP (thank God).

Hahahaha that was funny. I think there are some pets that deal blunt dmg anyway ...... slightly useful ? dunno. I wish some of them deal elemental dmg or make a new pet for 20 titles that does it lol .

Just micro the pet. Use the pet "commands" attack/guard/heel to make it attack what you want where you want. Just yesterday (before the update) my piggy responded very fast to my commands.

You should try it. Great in theory, but it sucks. Pets have now been hauled up from cataclysmically dreadful to mediocre with this update. They may see some use now,b ut they are no where near effective for a ranger in PvE.
And pet commands are fail

Not to made it worth in HM.
And also command must queue not cancel.
An idea is to add shadowstep to pet. They are bodyblocked very easily

Nice update , updated an R/P build for ~100DPS plus easy DW but its a little bit clunky for me so needs a bit of tweaking. Good improvement over the ~80-85DPs before the update.
I don't really see an issue with that level of damage in HM, seems fine for a ranged attack and works fine to me.
I would have liked Pet Attacks to queue though , cancelling is a pain in the arse
